PRIMARY SCHOOL LITERACY
- Reading corners or spaces have been shown to be avenues that promote reading and literacy in an engaging manner and is not dependent on a specific location.
- Reading corners were run at Little Fountain Orphanage in recognition of Children’s Day and Volunteer Readers were paired with groups of children to read fun and engaging storybooks. These story sessions were fun ways of bonding with children, instilling in them the importance of reading and breaking down misconceptions that reading is boring.
- Individuals that volunteered benefited from knowing that their time and energy made a difference in a child’s life and they were adequately trained to be Volunteer Readers and truly engage children in the stories that they read.
